I have always had a passion for writing. I love it. In many ways, writing is one of the most important things in my life… but even so for so long I’ve abandoned it. Sure I start to write and maybe get a chapter or two finished, or an outline partially constructed, but I always drop it after a few weeks.
Recently two things happened in my life that might seem small. One I visited Edinburgh, and for those of you who don’t know, Edinburgh has been home to many writers throughout history. I’d visited before and every time I go I get that itch to write again. However, this time I also picked up a book called “Stick With It” as I find that writing like many other habits I really care about, always falls by the wayside.
If you are most people, this would like ring true for you. Maybe you want to go to the gym more, maybe you want to eat healthier food, or maybe you’re like me and you want to do something creative like write, but you constantly find yourself giving up on the things you really want to do.
This time I figured enough was enough. From today on out, I’ll stop making excuses and write something every day (a random social media status doesn’t count). While I plan for most of these to be short pieces of fiction I feel that writing even if it’s a form of non-fiction will be applicable as well.
If you struggle with this like I do I ask that you join me, encourage me, give me writing tips, ideas, feedback, and even join me on your own quest! I know it will be hard and there will be days that I’m busy, tired, or discouraged and don’t feel like writing. But even if it’s a few sentences of a micro story or an opinion piece, I need you to help keep me accountable and maybe along the way you will be motivated as well!
Are you ready?
