Defenders (Part 23)

“Hi, I’m Arthur.” He offered his hand to the Asain boy sitting next to him who started at it for a moment before taking it.

“I’m Zach.” He answered griping Arthur’s hand now in a firm handshake. The interaction seemed to help stabilize them both. “Do any of you have an idea what that was back there?” Zach asked the others.

The tall one glared at them both. “How would we know? This chick here seems to know the most about what’s going on.”

He looked over at Lindsey who had seemed to finally stop pressing buttons on the ship’s console. She turned around in her chair to face them. “I’m not some chick. My name is Lindsey, and I know because I did the research. When it comes to this, I’m just as clueless as the rest of you.”

She had really dropped the friendly exterior she had before, maybe this is how she was under real stress Arthur thought. “Chill Lindsey, we’re just trying to figure out what happened. You got us out of there, which we’re all grateful for.” He decided to throw her a bone and hope she’d come around. “May I ask how far our we are from the rendezvous point?”

“You may ask.” She paused for a moment, before finishing, “about twenty minutes, the ship is on autopilot and will take us the rest of the way.”

Arthur nodded and looked toward the taller guy. “So what’s your name?”

He rolled his eyes and looked away before answering. “Jim, name’s Jim.”
